Malaysia Airports Continues Marketing Effort To Attract Airlines At The 17th World Route Development Forum
11 November 2011
Kuala Lumpur, 11 November 2011 - Malaysia Airports recently participated in the 17th World Route Development Forum held from 2nd to 4th October 2011 at the
Messe Berlin GmbH Convention Centre in Berlin, Germany. The global event, also known as World Routes, is the meeting place for airlines, airports, tourism
authorities and other stakeholders to discuss and negotiate air service development opportunities.
The Malaysia Airports' team was led by its Managing Director, Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad together with En. Mohamed Sallauddin Hj. Mat Sah, General Manager Marketing. Throughout the 3-day event, the team conducted a total of 30 pre-scheduled meetings with airlines' network/route planners to share information and explore potential new services to the main gateways of Malaysia i.e. KL International Airport and the other four Regional International Airports in Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Penang and Langkawi. The team provided the airlines with market information and passenger traffic forecast to procure additional airline business and the team deliberated with some noteworthy potential airline customers such as British Airways, Qantas Airways, Jetstar Airways, Turkish Airlines and Finnair.
Malaysia Airports also put up an exhibition stand in the Networking Village, showcasing its airports and services as well as promoting Malaysia as a destination. Malaysia Airports promotional efforts were strengthened with the participation from KL Airport Services, Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage Sarawak, the Embassy of Malaysia in Germany and Malaysia Airports' own Business Development Division.
The meetings generated some very encouraging outcomes that will further enhance flight connectivity to Malaysia. Bangkok Airways announced that it will begin operating from Koh Samui to Kuala Lumpur as early as March 2012 following the successful conclusion of its interline arrangements with Malaysia Airlines. Malaysia Airports also learnt that Transaero Airlines will commence its scheduled flights from Moscow to Kuala Lumpur on a weekly basis from 30th December 2011 until 25th March 2012.
In addition, Finnair has confirmed that it will be operating 14 charter flights from Helsinki to Langkawi between December 2011 and March 2012. Air Astana will be adding a third frequency to its Almaty-Kuala Lumpur service, whilst Mahan Air will begin its service from Isfahan to Kuala Lumpur, both before the end of 2011.
The World Routes is a premier annual aviation event which Malaysia Airports has participated consistently since its early years of inception in the mid 90's. From a mere gathering of pre-scheduled airport-to-airline meetings only, this event has attained significant importance as it has attracted relevant stakeholders in destination marketing such as tourism development agencies and economic development authorities to join their airport colleagues to collectively promote and develop air services. Thus each airport and its partners will undertake to showcase and promote their city's attractions and establish the reason for the airline to fly or increase their services to their city. For Malaysia Airports, this is one great event where we get to meet several airline decision-makers and network planners in a short period of time in one place; optimising both time and cost for the company.
