Volunteers of the ‘Skuad Ceria’ team cheer the young patients with storytelling sessions and gifts in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration

BANTING – Deepavali joy was brought early to the children at the paediatric ward of Hospital Banting as Malaysia Airports organized a storytelling and gift giving session to bring cheer to over 30 children at the ward.

As part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, the event saw employee volunteers from the ‘Skuad Ceria’ team bring to life stories and characters from children storybooks, much to the delight of the young patients at the hospital. The ‘Skuad Ceria’ team also distributed gifts to the children.

This is the second installment of the reading programme held in the hospital, with the first reading session held last August to commemorate and bring Merdeka cheer to children. This time around, athletes and representatives from National Sports Council (NSC) also participated together to bring a smile to the children’s faces. They met and mingled with the young patients, giving words of encouragement and inspiration.

“It’s exciting that we are able to conduct this storytelling session once again in Hospital Banting’s paediatric ward. After having our first session in August, it gave us an even stronger drive to conduct more sessions to lift the spirits of these young patients. It is great that we are consistently engaging with this hospital, from our initial initiative last year in refurbishing the ward with new wallpaper and adding a play area-cum-reading corner, we believe these continuous efforts will bring more long-term values to both parties.” said Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, acting group chief executive officer of Malaysia Airports.

“Credit must also go to our ‘Skuad Ceria’ employee volunteerism team. Their dedication and commitment in making a difference for those less fortunate is truly commendable. I am proud that our employees believe and are invested in our CSR programmes. It is also wonderful for NSC to join us to show their support and bring cheer to the community. Malaysia Airports welcomes their participation and looks forward to more engagement with NSC,” Azmi added.

‘This is a wonderful opportunity for our athletes to engage and give back to the community that has shown tremendous support to NSC and our athletes over the years. Malaysia Airports is truly a responsible corporate citizen with committed CSR practices that positive differences in the community, and we are grateful for this opportunity to participate in this meaningful event,” said YBhg. Dato’ Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, Director General of NSC.

Apart from the storytelling session, Deepavali joy was also brought to the team of doctors and nurses at the paediatric ward as the ‘Skuad Ceria’ team distributed chocolate hampers to them who work tirelessly to ensure the children are well taken care off.

Malaysia Airports is a strong advocate of inculcating reading habits and elevating academic performances, while also investing in activities that bring joy and inspiration. The company believes that interactive storytelling sessions like these are a great way to instill the love of reading, and at the same time, picking up a book is a wonderful way in letting children’s imagination soar.
