Malaysia Airports collaborates with Yayasan Sarawak on facilities management expertise
04 July 2013
Kuching, 4 July 2013 - Malaysia Airports is pleased to announce that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yayasan Sarawak on the provision of Facilities Management and its related services.
The MoU was signed today between Malaysia Airports' subsidiary, Urusan Teknologi Wawasan Sdn. Bhd. (UTW) and Yayasan Sarawak's wholly-owned Sanjung Etika Sdn. Bhd. The agreement marked a beginning of a unified effort between both parties in strengthening co-operation in the fields of managing buildings, facilities and infrastructures.
The agreement will see both parties form a partnership to explore, secure and manage Facilities Management businesses in Sarawak. The co-operation for any successful award of project will be based on the experience, expertise and resources of each party.
Y.Bhg. Dato' Abdul Hamid Mohd Ali, Chief Operations Officer of Malaysia Airports and Chairman of UTW, mentioned on the importance of facilities management, "Facility Management is a profession that encompasses multiple disciplines to ensure the functionality of the built environment by integrating people, place, process and technology. Since the 1980's the trend has been for organisations to concentrate on their core business and hence consider outsourcing support services which of course includes all facilities management services.
The Facility Management market is still growing and the potential is enormous particularly with the large economic growth rate and the rapidly increasing amount of property development."
Dato' Abdul Hamid also said, "The MoU also represents both parties' earnest effort towards the objective of promoting the facility maintenance culture. Facility Management is a vital element in supporting any organisation in carrying out its core business, whatever that may be, by providing a safe and effective environment for any organisation to operate.
Therefore, UTW is pleased to form a strategic partnership with Sanjung Etika which has vast experience and proven track record in property management and facilities management."
The signing also indicated Malaysia Airports' relentless effort to diversify its business and discover new opportunities to further market its expertise. One of the most important benefits from this project is the opportunity to further expand Malaysia Airports' non-aeronautical or commercial revenue base, in line with Malaysia Airports' "2010-2014 Business Direction: Runway to Success", where commercial development is slated to be the main driver of revenue and profitability growth.
Urusan Teknologi Wawasan Sdn Bhd (UTW) was originally incorporated in 1998 as the Facility Management company to perform maintenance services for KL International Airport. Since then, UTW as a pioneer in Facility Management in Malaysia has marked sound track record in turnover, building and facilities under its portfolio. Other than KLIA, UTW clients include Sepang International Circuit, KLCC, Skypark and Spirit Aerosystems.
