Malaysia Airports Starts Countdown to Merdeka

Sepang, 28 August 2007 - Malaysia Airports kick-off their countdown to historic 50th Merdeka Day by launching 50 Hours Merdeka Celebration at KL
International Airport (KLIA) today.
The 50 Hours Merdeka Celebration will showcase an array of activities for public and airport users to indulge while at KLIA. Among the lineup include games, cultural performance and handicraft demonstrations.
Also included is Malaysia Airports' inaugural emcee search competition - MC Idol, where nine finalists will pit their emcee skills on August 30.
Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Aris Othman, Chairman Malaysia Airports, said: "Malaysia Airports is delighted to present these activities to welcome Merdeka Day which is just around the corner. As airport is a main gateway to Malaysia, Malaysia Airports wishes to welcome tourists with the message that Malaysia is celebrating its 50th year of nationhood".
He added: "These activities are specially tailored to fill the whole 50 hours of welcoming Merdeka Day at KLIA. KLIA will also host Ambang Merdeka celebration on the eve of August 31."
Tan Sri Aris also launched the Malaysia Airports Merdeka exhibition. This exhibition booth was specially constructed to celebrate Merdeka, highlighting the evolution of aviation particularly airports.
Tan Sri Aris said: "Malaysia Airports would also like to celebrate the contributions of airports in Malaysia, as airports have played significant role before and after Merdeka in Malaysia s development. Airports have and still playing major role in ensuring continuous growth in this country and also all over the world."
He also said: Our greatest achievement in KLIA winning the World's Best Airport further testified that airports in Malaysia have evolved tremendously over the years and Malaysians should be proud of it."
Apart from producing a Merdeka tv commercial for the first time ever to commemorate 50th Merdeka Celebration, Malaysia Airports has also organised an office decoration competition called Merdeka Deco, where offices of Malaysia Airports and subsidiaries competes in an interior decoration themed Merdeka. Apart from KLIA, other airports in Malaysia also decorated the airports in conjunction with Merdeka Day.
