About Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport

Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (ISGIA) is one of two international airports serving Istanbul, Turkey. The airport was built to cope with booming passenger demand and is located 35km Southeast of central Istanbul.

In 2008, Malaysia Airports, together with its consortium partners Limak Group (LIMAK) and GMR Infrastructure Limited (GMR), signed an implementation agreement with the Turkish's Ministry of Defence and subsequently took over the operations of the ISGIA in May 2008. The concession tenure is for a period of 20 years.

It has a single runway (3,000m) and serves almost all major international airlines. It was designed to handle 25 million passengers per year. The airport was recognized for its fast traffic growth and honoured with the Airport Traffic Growth Award by ANNIE for 2 consecutive years in 2010 and 2011. It was also voted as the World's Best Airport at the World Low Cost Airlines Congress in London in 2010.

ISGIA is the world's largest seismically isolated building, meaning the building moves side-to-side during an earthquake. The whole building moves as a single unit, preventing damage from uneven forces acting on the structure.
