MOU Signed Between Eurocopter Malaysia and Malaysia International Aerospace Centre for The Development Of Helicopter Centre

Subang, 2 December 2009 - Eurocopter, the world's leading helicopter manufacturer, through its subsidiary Eurocopter Malaysia and MIAC Sdn Bhd (MIAC) a wholly owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of Helicopter Centre at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport.

This Centre will witness the first ever heliport and helicopter Full Flight Simulator (FFS) in Malaysia. The primary objective of this Helicopter Centre is to provide an environment that is conducive to the development of the helicopter industry in Malaysia. It will also be dedicated to the helicopter operations at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport.

The MOU was signed by Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of MAHB and Pierre Nardelli, President and CEO of Eurocopter Malaysia in the presence of Tan Sri Aris Othman, Chairman of MAHB and Philippe Harache, Senior Executive Vice President of Eurocopter.

The Helicopter Centre is one of the 6 development components of Malaysia International Aerospace Centre (MIAC) managed by Malaysia Airports, an organization that has been tasked by the Government of Malaysia to manage the development of the aerospace industry.

The key components of the Helicopter Centre Master Plan are:

  • Heliport/helipad

  • Helicopter Services Terminal

  • Eurocopter New Facility

  • Helicopter hangars and Repair Stations

  • Related Infrastructures and utilities.

This Helicopter Centre, which will house the new EC225 Flight Simulator, will serve the needs of their customers in the Asia and Australasia.

The Helicopter Centre shall become the hub of all helicopter activities and operations, such as Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) for helicopters, hangarages and helicopter parking.

Eurocopter will provide its expertise and experience to MIAC for the development and planning of the Helicopter Centre. In addition, Eurocopter Malaysia has pledged to become the anchor tenant for the Helicopter Centre once it is completed. It will relocate its current facility at Terminal 2, Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport to the new Helicopter Centre.

The cooperation between Eurocopter Malaysia and MIAC demonstrates both parties' commitment to further develop Malaysia into a regional aerospace hub. With this strategic partnership, Eurocopter Malaysia is able to expand and support the future growth of the industry and serve its growing customer base better through the development of a bigger and improved facility.

MIAC is confident that the development of the Helicopter Centre will further position Malaysia as a global aerospace player with Malaysia Airports as one of the main drivers in the aerospace industry.
