Malaysia Airports Celebrates 10th Edition Media Explore Hunt With 200 Media Representatives
14 December 2012
Sepang, 14 December 2012 - Malaysia Airports celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Media Explore Hunt by hosting an event that challenges 50 teams comprising members of various media organizations today, to prove their mental and physical toughness to win the grand prize of RM7,000.
Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director Of Malaysia Airports said, "This event is our way to thank the media for your continuous support and good relationship that we shared and enjoyed through these years. It is my sincerest hope that this positive support and relationship will continue to flourish for many years to come."
Besides that, an event such as this will also undoubtedly provide opportunities not only for Malaysia Airports to enhance its rapport with the media, but also for the media members to expand networking amongst themselves.
The teams began their hunt early morning today after being flagged off at the Malaysia Airports Corporate Office in Sepang, Selangor. The 10th edition of Malaysia Airports Media Explore Hunt was flagged off by Dato' Abdul Hamid accompanied by senior management of Malaysia Airports.
Prior briefings and instructions were given to all participating teams on the magnitude of observing road safety at all times throughout the hunt. The importance of safety was also in Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad's mind as he stressed, "It doesn't matter if you win or lose; to me all of you are winners by completing the hunt and most importantly, arriving safely at the designated destination."
The event never fails to attract large number of participation, and the 10thedition was not spared from the same overwhelming response, as all 50 available spots for the hunt were taken up two weeks before the closing date, with few teams being placed on waiting list in case any of the confirmed teams may need to pull out. Tan Sri Bashir expressed his delight, "Such great response proved that the event has garnered huge interest and following among the media community, and in that spirit we are doing our best to accommodate more teams in the future."
The event has traversed a long way, from a modest beginning in 2002 with only 30 teams taking part in the inaugural edition to 2012, where 50 teams took part today in a hunt in Klang Valley. The selection of Pan Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport as the end point of the race was to commemorate the first hunt in 2002, where teams were flagged off from Malaysia Airports Head Office in Subang and ended the hunt at this hotel.
Re-branded as "Malaysia Airports Media Explore Hunt" since 2007, this treasure hunt event has been an annual media event in Malaysia Airports' calendar. It has taken participating media members on the journey to various destinations in Peninsular Malaysia.
Since its rebranding, Malaysia Airports has decided to make it tougher with fully incorporated - Explore Race elements in treasure hunt. By adding these types of activities, participants were tested not only on their skills in answering the hunt questions and finding the treasure items, but also on their physical abilities. This format allows the less experienced teams an equal opportunity to win the hunt or at least give the more experienced teams a run for their money.
In celebrating the 10th edition, Malaysia Airports has made the hunt much tougher; pushing all teams to the limit, but the reward is worth the effort as the prize money was significantly increased. The champions of the Malaysia Airports Media Explore Hunt 2012, I Want To Ride My Bicycle from RTM took home cash prize of RM7,000, medals and the hunt challenge trophy. The Other Team also from RTM was second and won cash prize of RM6,000 and medals while Fab 4 from New Straits Times Press was third and received RM4,000 and medals. Cash prizes were also given to teams up to 20th placing. Prizes were presented by Tan Sri Bashir and also senior management of Malaysia Airports.
Towards enhancing the success of the 10th edition Media Explore Hunt, Malaysia Airports is pleased to have ERL Sdn. Bhd. as a partner. Tan Sri Bashir said, "I would like to record my appreciation to our event partner, ERL Sdn Bhd, which has helped us to make the hunt more challenging, exciting, efficient and 'greener' with KLIA Express. The partnership with ERL Sdn. Bhd. has certainly made the event more memorable and we look forward to more partnership with ERL in the future."
Malaysia Airports is also pleased to receive the support of its subsidiary, Eraman Malaysia and Pan Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport which have also contributed significantly towards the success of this event.
