Renovated Lahad Datu Terminal To Offer Enhanced Facilities

Lahad Datu, 26 November 2008 - Lahad Datu Airport now offers enhanced facilities as the renovation works to the terminal has now been completed.
The renovated terminal, which cost RM1.6 million underlines the Sabah and Malaysia Airports' efforts to further improve air travel experience in Sabah.
YB Datuk Seri Panglima Hj. Lajim Hj. Ukin, Deputy Minister of Transport launched the newly renovated terminal today accompanied by YB Datuk Haji Datu Nasrun Bin Haji Datu Mansor, ADUN of Lahad Datu dan Y.Bhg. Dato' Azmi Murad, Senior General Manager Operations Services of Malaysia Airports.
The total floor area of the renovated terminal has been significantly expanded, from the previous 3,305 sq. ft to 6,863 sq. ft, providing ample comfort space for all passengers. The present runway of 1371 meters with two aircraft bays is capable of handling Fokker 50 and the new ATR 72 aircraft on a four times daily scheduled flights.
Airport users can also look forward to an improved air-conditioned public concourse, which now consist of three check-in counters configured with baggage conveyor, two convenience shops and one F&B outlet. VIP lounge and public toilets have also been given a facelift while additional 50 chairs have also been installed and prayer rooms are also available.
The terminal handles an average of 200 passengers and four flights daily. Currently, MAS Wings is the only airline serving this airport.
Dato' Azmi Murad said: "This is our commitment to further boost the passenger movements at Sabah, particularly at Lahad Datu, as well as enhancing the services and facilities at this airport."
"Passengers and airport users at Lahad Datu can now experience a more conducive environment at the airport and Malaysia Airports will continuously monitor all the service aspects of this airport to ensure that it is at its level best," he added.
In 2007, Lahad Datu Airport recorded a total of 77,024 passenger movements and 2,195 commercial aircraft movements.
