15 awards were up for grabs for all airlines and service providers operating at KL International Airport in the fourth edition of the annual KLIA Awards held on 27 June, where partners with outstanding achievement for the year 2008 were honoured.
KLIA Awards offer recognition to different categories of airlines and service providers at KLIA. The winners received the Awards either based on passenger movements, strong growth, good sales performance, international recognition as well as service performance - all based on 2008 performance. The Awards come in the shape of a specially constructed trophy.
KLIA Awards was first introduced in 2006. KLIA Awards is the only award in the country that pays tribute to the best performers in aviation industry and has established itself as one of the most important events in the nation's aviation industry.
The presentation of the KLIA Awards is aimed at providing an incentive and reward to all KLIA business partners that constantly push the boundaries of excellence in their fields and thus advancing KLIA further in service excellence.
YB Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew, Deputy Minister of Transport in his speech said: "The secret to KLIA's success lies in the synergy of dedicated people - The airport operator, airlines, service providers, government agencies, retailers, contractors, ground handlers, and many others who have walked hand in hand with us to where KLIA is today. I truly appreciate the commitment and support of everyone who have contributed to KLIA's success throughout the years."
He also commended Malaysia Airports' initiative in honoring the partners: "Apart from celebrating quality achievement, indeed it is important to note that airports depend on the success of all its partners. An airport's success has direct bearing on the innovativeness and aggressiveness of its partners."
Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports said: "KLIA Awards is a medium for us to acknowledge those within the KLIA community who have consistently improved themselves and enhanced their presence at the airport with the kind of excellent service we wish to extend to all airport users. Demonstrating the spirit of 1 Malaysia, these collective unrelenting efforts have been the pillar of success for KLIA throughout its 11 years of operations."

The year 2009 has thus far been a trying time for the aviation industry, but we believe the existing strong cooperation between us and all the partners will ensure KLIA end the year on a positive note."
He added: "We are grateful to be internationally recognised as a capable operator and manager with an excellent track record on performance, in line with our vision to be a 'world-class airport business."
Also present at the Awards dinner was the Chairman of Malaysia Airports, Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Aris Othman. More than 500 guests attended the grand event at the Pan Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the 2008's World's Leading Airport Hotel also owned by Malaysia Airports. The guests were entertained by the multi talented Leonard Tan.
