KLIA Commence 'Next Generation Hub' Programme With Launch Of Web Portal

SEPANG, 18 August - KL International Airport (KLIA) has launched itself as the Next Generation Hub, a premier airport that will enable passengers to connect seamlessly amongst all types of carriers including full service airlines and low-cost carriers to all destinations served from KLIA.

With the growing breed of a new, media savvy and technologically connected generation of travellers, Malaysia Airports recognised a need for a new, innovative solution to better serve these passengers' needs; hence the concept of a Next Generation Hub was born.

In the first phase of the Next Generation Hub, Malaysia Airports and KLIA is launching www.flyklia.com, which provides an itinerary builder that integrates all airlines schedules and fares, including full service carriers and low-cost carriers.

Today marks the launch of the portal which will continue to be extensively developed over the coming months. Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Aris Othman, Chairman of Malaysia Airports and Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports launched the web portal today at KLIA.

The itinerary builder was developed in partnership with an Iceland-based technology company which provides innovative technology solutions for the travel industry. The Flight Planner which is free to use, searches more than 660 airlines worldwide for the best flights and connections available. The search results include links to airlines and other travel portals where travellers can book flights directly.

According to Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad, the portal "empowers the traveller with tools to build unique itineraries."

Tan Sri Bashir said: "It gives the passengers the ability to generate multiple itineraries from the various combinations of flights and fares derived from both full- service and low- cost carriers at the touch of a button. These combinations would not show up on a regular booking engine. The website is also easy to navigate therefore taking away the hassle of planning a trip."

Besides flight booking options, the website also features information such as the operating airlines at KLIA, facilities available and environmental efforts at KLIA.

The portal will be continually enhanced and for the next phase of development and Malaysia Airports is already looking at adding other features including a hotel booking engine which will compare prices for properties in and outside Malaysia ensuring that the lowest prices are made available each time and an Airport Frequent Connector Loyalty programme, which is aimed at rewarding frequent travellers' use of KLIA.

With the launch of the website, Malaysia Airports is also excited to introduce the new "KLIA Next Generation Hub - The New Way to the World" branding to convey the Next Generation Hub as a new way of doing things for both passengers and airlines.

By providing a way to integrate all types of carriers' networks, Malaysia Airports is facilitating even more travel options for passengers at KLIA, thereby reducing the cost of travel for passengers who connect at the hub. In addition, it is offering a new way for a new generation of travellers to explore KLIA, Malaysia and the world.
