Malaysia Airports: A driving Force Behind Aviation's Contribution To The Nation's Economy

Sepang, 26 July 2012 - Over the last week, Malaysia Airports had accomplished two major events that have been gaining recognition in the industry. They are the KLIA Awards 2011 that paid tribute to the performance excellence of airlines, concessionaires, agencies and partners operating at KLIA, and the Indulge Till you Fly Campaign to promote shopping at all our international airports.

As an airport, we work closely with all partners to facilitate their growth and increase their performance level. In servicing the airlines, we had the foresight to cater to the evolving requirements of the airlines and equipped the airport to support their growth accordingly. This year, KLIA welcomed the A380 aircraft. Malaysia Airports took the initiative to upgrade KLIA a few years ago to meet the requirements of such large aircraft operations. This is to cater for the premium passengers.

In the case of the low fare travel, this segment of the traffic has continued to grow significantly and now forms about 50% of the total traffic. Likewise, Malaysia Airport's foresight in seeing the potential of low fare travel and constructing a dedicated terminal for low-cost airlines as well as providing growth incentives and allowing exemptions to meet the low-cost business model at the advent of the low-fare travel phenomenon, has now began to show the benefits to the traveling public and the country.

The Malaysia Airports' KLIA Awards 2011 held on 17 July 2012, recognized 18 winners altogether. KLIA Awards winners are chosen based on their 2011 feat in sectors such as passenger movement, growth factor, sales performance, international recognition as well as their service performance. The KLIA Awards was testament to the positive contribution of aviation to the nation's economy. Amongst the top winners at the KLIA Awards 2011 were the highest passenger traffic airline and best performing cargo airline, for which AirAsia and MASKargo won respectively for Airline of the Year - Passenger and Airline of the Year - Cargo.

The best performing F&B and retail outlets were also recognized for their sales and growth contribution and the winners were McDonald's at LCCT operated by Golden Arches (M) Sdn. Bhd as F&B Outlet of the Year and Perfumes & Cosmetics at Satellite operated by Dimensi Eksklusif (M) Sdn. Bhd as Retail Outlet of the Year.

In promoting the F&B and Retail concessionaires at the airport, Malaysia Airports had initiated and executed various marketing and promotion campaigns such as the annual Indulge Till You Fly (ITUF) Campaign to promote shopping.

Recently Malaysia Airports' launched its 2012/2013 ITUF Campaign effective from 19 July 2012 till 28 February 2013 at all international airports - KLIA/LCCT-KLIA, Langkawi International Airport, Penang International Airport, Kuching International Airport and Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

In its third year running, the 2012/2013 ITUF Campaign underpins our strategic move - to raise awareness that airports are lifestyle destinations with lots to offer, sometimes, more than downtown malls. This year's ITUF campaign offers RM1 million shopping spree as its grand prize.

In line with Malaysia Airports' emphasis to continuously enhance and drive the service excellence culture at KLIA, KLIA Awards also recognized the KLIA business partners that relentlessly push the boundaries of distinction in their fields, enabling KLIA to further advance in service excellence.

Sinar Jernih Sdn. Bhd was recognised for obtaining the highest score under the global Airport Service Quality (ASQ) benchmark and Perkhidmatan Arah Sdn. Bhd was recognised for obtaining the most improved score from the previous year, both in the cleanliness category.

Last but not least, KLIA Awards recognised the Royal Malaysian Customs KLIA for its excellent performance with the much coveted Chairman's Award.
