02 December 2012
Sepang, 2 December 2012 - In an effort to find a solution to the concession agreement (CA) between the Government of Maldives and the consortium led by
India's GMR Group and Malaysia Airports, a delegation led by Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato' Sri Anifah Hj Aman had met with the Maldives counterpart
Abdul Samad Abdullah, in Male on 30 November 2012.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss the resolution on the airport CA undertaken by the consortium. Malaysia Airports holds 23% while GMR holds 77% stake in the consortium. GMR Group is a strategic partner to Malaysia Airports in managing and operating airports overseas and both have enjoyed a good working relationship, building on each other's strengths to offer the best values to the airports under its management.
There have been numerous efforts made by both GMR and Malaysia Airports in finding a resolution to the CA. The Government of India has also voiced out its concerns on this matter.
The latest meeting between the senior representatives of the Malaysian and Maldivian Governments is a further indication that all the parties are determined to find an amicable solution which will allow all parties to continue to work together.
The GMR-MAHB consortium has made significant investments into the project and continues to reinvest into the rehabilitation, expansion and
modernization of INIA. Up to date, the GMR-MAHB Consortium has not received any dividends for the investments made.
