Malaysia Airports Releases Its first Annual Sustainability Report
19 October 2010
Malaysia Airports further underlines its commitment in environmental sustainability by launching its first annual sustainability report for 2009 today at the KL Convention Centre, the venue of International Greentech and Eco Product Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2010.
Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports, in launching the report said: "Malaysia Airports believes that managing our impact on the environment and community, as well as taking responsibility with our business processes is an important part how we operate. The purpose of the Sustainability Report is to consolidate all our processes and impacts in a single report that is transparent and able to propel us into further improving the way we conduct our business."
The abridged version report is compiled using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standard reporting guidelines, as a prelude to the full version that is currently in progress.
GRI guidelines were selected as it is currently the global standard for triple bottom line reporting. In embracing GRI, Malaysia Airports hopes to elevate their activities and efforts beyond the compliance levels recommended by the Bursa Malaysia Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework, and reporting framework of the Silver Book published by the Putrajaya Committee.
Tan Sri Bashir concluded: "Malaysia Airports believes in a holistic approach to business. Hence, this report is yet another step in taking responsibility for the way Malaysia Airports conducts our business. There is so much more that we can do to contribute to a better world. In putting it all in a sustainability report, we hope to improve not only the services we provide to our customers, but also to enhance the community we are a part of, the environment we operate in, and the world we live in. "
