Tips for Flying

Bookmark and Share

If you are not prepared, flying can be a stressful experience. These tips can help keep your flying experience a breeze.

Check in early

Checking in early saves you time and stress. With less time waiting in lines, you can explore the airport and have lots of time left for shopping!

Check security guidelines

Airports may have different security guidelines and restrictions. It is best to check them beforehand to avoid any last-minute changes to your luggage. You can check our guidelines now.

Bring a beach ball

A beach ball is a great and versatile aid to have while flying. Depending on how much you inflate it, you can use it as a footrest, back support or a pillow. And it deflates for easy packing!

Bring your own sleep kit

Bringing a sleep kit onboard can help you relax and keep you refreshed. A sleep kit should include a travel pillow, an eye mask to block out light, earplugs or headphones to block out sound and a small blanket or large shawl to keep you warm.

Stay hydrated

Long flights can dehydrate you, so it is best to drink lots of water. You can bring water on board, as long as it is in a 100ml container. Check out Liquids, Aerosols & Gels for more on what you can bring on the plane.

Bring gum

Chewing is a great way to prevent those clogged ears during take-off and landing (except when you are in Singapore - it is prohibited!). Start chewing beforehand and keep chewing throughout, and you will stay pain free. If you are not a fan of gum, eating fruits such as apples or pears still works!

Bring headphones

Flights can be noisy, whether it is the engines or other passengers. For some peace and quiet, bring headphones and listen to music. You can also invest in noise-cancelling headphones; they still cancel out a lot of background noise even when you are not listening to anything.
