Installation of Another 15 Machines of SBD Facility will Begin on 18 November 2018
SEPANG – As announced last month, Malaysia Airports will continue to provide a seamless passenger experience at klia2 with the commencement of the installation works for 15 additional self-bag drop (SBD) machines at klia2 come 18 November 2018 following the positive feedback from passengers after the first set of 15 SBD machines was installed at the same terminal earlier this year. The SBD system aims to shorten the queue time from an average 2.5 minutes per passenger to only 1 minute per passenger when dropping off their luggage.
Malaysia Airports acting group chief executive officer Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin said, “We are moving towards Airports 4.0 that speaks of efficiency in processes through digital and technology initiatives. This current SBD facility allows for passengers to save time and have a seamless check-in experience. From the average of 24 passengers handled in one hour by using the previous baggage drop system, the number of passengers has now increased to 60 passengers per hour with the SBD. Hence, we are more than pleased to put in an additional 15 SBD machines for the benefit of our passengers.”
Passengers can look forward to use the new 15 additional SBD machines by the first week of December when installation is completed. The additional SBD machines will be installed at Rows S and T. Upon completion, there will be a total of 30 SBD machines at klia2. As at year-to-date September 2018, klia2 registered a 6.8% increase in passenger traffic movements compared to the same period last year.
