Etihad is the 8th Middle Eastern Airlines Flying to KLIA

Sepang, 16 January 2007 - The national airline of United Arab Emirates (UAE) - Etihad Airways made its maiden flight to KL International Airport (KLIA) today and was given a warm welcome reception by Malaysia Airports and Tourism Malaysia.

Etihad is the eighth Middle Eastern airline to fly into KLIA, joining other Middle Eastern airlines - Emirates, Gulf Air, Iran Air, Qatar Airways, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Yemenia Yemen Airways and Kuwait Airways.

In a welcome reception held at KLIA today, the arriving passengers of flight EY 405 from Abu Dhabi were greeted by YB Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas, Deputy Minister of Transport accompanied by Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Aris Othman, Chairman of Malaysia Airports, Y. Bhg. Dato Seri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports and His Excellency Mr. Nasser Salman Al Aboodi, UAE Ambassador. The first to disembark from the aircraft were Mr. James Hogan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Etihad; YBhg Dato Mubin Razali, Malaysia Ambassador to UAE; Mr. Geert W. Boven, Vice President of Sales and Services Etihad and Mr Iain Burns, Vice President, Corporate Communications Etihad.

The airline will operate six flights weekly, flying on the Abu Dhabi - Kuala Lumpur route everyday except for Saturdays using the A340-300 aircraft with a 265-seat configuration.

Commenting on this latest addition to KLIA s impressive number of Middle Eastern airlines, Dato Seri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports said: "This latest addition is an indication of Middle Eastern airlines confidence in the traffic to Kuala Lumpur."

He added: "Malaysia Airports is delighted to welcome another airline to KLIA and at the same time, pleased to be able to contribute towards the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 in terms of Middle Eastern tourists arrival."

Mr. James Hogan, Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Airways said, "Kuala Lumpur is our fourth destination in the Asia Pacific region after the successful Jakarta, Bangkok and Manila routes. Within three years of its inception in 2003, Etihad Airways has expanded its operations to 47 destinations worldwide and is known as the world s fastest growing new airline."

This is indeed a great start for KLIA entering 2007, welcoming the 48th passenger airline into its family.
