Malaysia Airports Amplify Marketing Drive in Routes 2007

Stockholm, 23 September 2007 - In its continuous efforts to market KL International Airport (KLIA) and other airports in Malaysia to international airlines worldwide, Malaysia Airports is participating in the 13th World Route Development Forum 2007 (ROUTES) in Stockholm, Sweden from September 23-25, 2007. ROUTES is the largest networking event which gathers airport and airline network planners from around the globe.

The event reflects the growing importance of commercial relationships between airlines and airports. This year s Routes in Stockholm is set to have the biggest turnout with more than 2,000 delegates from 120 countries representing 600 airports and 300 airlines from around the world, including major, regional, low cost, start-up, cargo and IT/charter airlines participating in the 3-day event.

Malaysia Airports delegation is led by its Chairman, Y. Bhg Tan Sri Datuk Dr Aris Othman, and its Managing Director, Y. Bhg Dato Seri Bashir Ahmad, as well as representatives from Tourism Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines, Express Rail Link (ERL), Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) and KL Airport Services (KLAS). Y.Bhg. Dato Abdul Hakim Borhan, Kuala Lumpur City Mayor is also attending this event.

Malaysia Airports delegates would have their hands full attending to the various business meetings and hospitality programs that have been scheduled at this World Route Development Forum.

This year s Routes will also see over 250 senior industry leaders will attend the inaugural Routes Leaders Forum at International Fairs to discuss key trends and challenges affecting aviation industry and to further strengthen industry partnership and cooperation.

Dato Seri Bashir Ahmad is also scheduled to speak at Routes Leaders Forum, where he is one of the panels to discuss the topic Stretching the Low Cost Model on Sept 24, 2007.

The Routes Business meetings would start on Monday, September 24. This year, Malaysia Airports participation at Routes 2007 is considered even more important as it prepare itself to host Routes 2008 in Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian delegation members are all set to impress the Routes communities of the exciting Routes 2008 destination - Malaysia Truly Asia .

Malaysia Airports hopes to achieve its objective in wooing more airlines to Kuala Lumpur and the other four international airports namely Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching and also other domestic airport in Malaysia. The marketing strategy for Malaysia Airports this year is aligned to Destination Marketing which emphasizes on Malaysia as the preferred destination for travelers. Malaysia Airports is expected to meet up with more than 40 airlines in Stockholm.

Dato Seri Bashir said: "Our primary aim is to sell KLIA and our other international airports, but to do this, our marketing strategy is to showcase Malaysia as a fascinating and unbeatable destination. As an airport operator, we will emphasize the benefits of flying to Malaysia, particularly on the incentives that we offer to new airlines."

Malaysia Airports has won the bid to host the World Route Development Forum in Kuala Lumpur in 2008, scheduled to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). Malaysia is the first Asian country to host this event, breaking the annual tradition of giving the host job to a European country.

Dato Seri Bashir Ahmad said: "As Malaysia will host 2008 edition of Routes, we are taking this opportunity to observe and learn to further enhance the delegates experience next year and in the meantime, promote Kuala Lumpur as the host for 2008. Furthermore, KLIA will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year, so of course, next year s Routes will be more special to us and we would like to ensure it leaves memorable experiences."

Malaysia Airports expect Kuala Lumpur's Routes to welcome about 2,800 delegates, which will be the biggest attendance for Routes.

He added: "We are looking forward to meet up and continue discussion with potential airlines in Routes in our continued efforts to encourage them to fly to Malaysia. It is hoped that with the collective efforts of Malaysia Airports and our partners, our presence at Routes here will be rewarding and I believe this is an excellent platform for Malaysia Airports to fast-track our marketing efforts to attract more new airlines in offering their services particularly to KLIA and the other four international airports."

Malaysia Airports confirmed partners for Routes 2008 are Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board, Malaysian Airline System Berhad, Express Rail Link Sdn. Bhd., Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Sri Sutra Travel, Petronas and KL Airport Services.
